Language Arts Curriculum Grades K - 3

The K-3 Language Arts Program is taught daily with an emphasis on developing strong reading and writing skills.  The Language Arts program is designed to engage students in building a solid foundation in reading and writing.  Students in grades 1 through 3 learn literacy through the Readers and Writers Workshop, a curriculum designed to teach students reading and writing strategies, skills, and genres (information, argument/opinion/narrative) that will help make them effective and lifelong readers and writers.  Students develop writing and reading stamina and volume through daily and authentic practice.  In addition to the Workshop our students benefit from a word-work block in which they receive phonics and vocabulary instruction from their teachers.

Kindergarten students continue to meet with success through the Tools of the Mind program.  The Tools of the Mind program builds foundational skills and strategies in literacy through engaging and research-based instruction.
