Schor Middle School held its first “Pay It Forward” event on Wednesday, September 16, inspiring others to do good things.  Students in grade level assemblies learned about Down Syndrome from Eighth Grade Student Ben Lorenc. Ben conducted a keynote presentation interspersed with videos that introduced the students to his younger brother Jacob, who was born with Down Syndrome. He also screened a segment from the television program “What Would You Do” that staged cruel behavior towards a store clerk with Down Syndrome and observed how others reacted to the behavior.

After the presentation, the students shared their thoughts about treating people with cognitive delays with kindness, and left the assembly inspired to take action on their behalf.

Ben received Schor’s first “Inspire” award for his presentation.
