In light of yesterday’s tragic event in Parkland, Florida, we want all Piscataway families to know our safety and security measures and know we take them seriously in every school.

Most essential to keeping our children safe at school is a welcoming school environment, combined with relationships built between students, families, and staff. It is of vital importance that students feel a connection to their school, and that parents feel welcomed and involved. All of our schools have counselors and a behaviorist on staff, and The Haven, an on-site mental health facility at PHS, is available to assist all district students in need of comprehensive counseling.

All schools have magnetic locking doors and video cameras with intercom/buzz-in systems. Doors are locked at all times and all visitors must sign in and out. PHS has almost 200 cameras throughout the school and campus. Staff include 11 trained security guards and a fulltime School Resource Officer from the Piscataway Police Department. School Resource Officers are also based at our middle schools. Staff is regularly reminded of safety procedures through regular staff meetings, professional development, and security drills.

Please know that your children’s safety is, and will continue to be, our most important charge. Thank you for supporting our efforts.
