The Piscataway School District is pleased to welcome several new administrators to the district for the 2015-2016 school year.
Ms. Lisa Parker and Mr. William Gonzalez return to Piscataway after several years in other districts. Mr. Gonzalez, who will serve as Principal at Quibbletown, served as Vice-Principal of New Brunswick High School for the past three years, but began his career at Piscataway High School in 1997. He started at PHS as a teacher of Psychology, Sociology and World and American History before being named PHS Dean of Students in 2003. He has a B.A. in Sociology and Teaching and an M.A. in Education Administration from Kean University.
Mr. Gonzalez replaced Ms. Deidre Ortiz, who is now Piscataway’s Director of Pupil Services, overseeing all of the district’s special education instructional programs and services. Ms. Ortiz began her career in Piscataway in 1986 as a Teacher of the Handicapped. In 1992, she became Learning Disabilities - Teacher Consultant for the district, and in 2003 was appointed Assistant Director of Special Education – Secondary. She was Principal of Quibbletown from 2006-2015. Ms. Ortiz earned a B.A. in Psychology and an M. Ed. in Special Education, both from Rutgers University.
Ms. Lisa Parker will lead Knollwood School as its new principal. She most recently served as an elementary principal in South Plainfield from 2007-2015, but previous to that, had a long career at Piscataway High School. She began as a Special Education Teacher in 1998 before becoming Dean of Students in 2003. She holds a B.A. in Special Education and Psychology from the College of New Jersey and an M.A. in Special Education from New Jersey City University.
Mr. Robert Harmer will take the reins as Supervisor of Physical Education Grades 9-12/ Athletic Director for the district. He most recently served for five years as Athletic Director/Physical Education Supervisor for the New Providence School District. Previous to that, from 1999-2010, he was Athletic Director/Supervisor of Physical Education and Vice Principal at Scotch Plains High School. Mr. Harmer played professional football for the Ottawa Rough Riders from 1995-1997. He is a graduate of Edinboro University, holding a B.A. in Health & Physical Education, and Fairleigh Dickenson University, holding an M.A. in Education Leadership.
